Help us build a village, one house at a time

We are close to completing our first ten houses in Weligama, in the South of Sri Lanka. Some of these houses will be handed to the beneficiary families on Dec 26th and we hope to complete the rest by January 15th 2006. Click here for an update.

The second phase of this project is to build an entire settlement of 50 houses in Matara, also in the South of Sri Lanka. The cost per house is only $2,250. Detailed information is available here.
Donate a computer...

The houses that we're building are part of a larger housing settlement of 137 houses including a Community Center. We're currently seeking donations for 20-30 used computers to use as part of a skills training program within the Community Center.

If you have an old computer in working condition that you're not using, please contact us and we'll come pick it up. Your donation is fully tax deductible. The typical specification for a computer are: Pentium/AMD processor of 500Mhz or higher and at least 64M of RAM.

Our Goals

Sri Lanka is one of the most severely affected countries by the tsunami waves that hit South Asia on December 26th, 2004. Approximately 30,000 have been killed in Sri Lanka, the majority being women and children, with well over a million displaced and homeless. Tragically, the tsunami waves have affected the poorest of the poor in Sri Lanka.

Sri Lanka Tsunami Recovery was founded to raise funds for reconstruction and rehabilitation. Even though there has been an unprecedented amount of aid already pledged, the sheer magnitude of the disaster means that this recovery is just beginning. As a developing nation, Sri Lanka does not have the infrastructure to cope adequately with this calamity, and therefore, faces a long period of reconstruction. Please take a moment to understand our mission and how we plan to utilize your donations through our projects.

Why Us?

With all the large international and local organizations now heavily involved in the relief effort, why should you contribute to us? Our focus is on long-term recovery, and through our local contacts, we are able to get your donations directly to the affected individuals at the grass roots level with no administrative overhead. We also believe that we can bypass the typical bureaucracy and potential corruption by working at this level. Therefore, we ensure you that every dollar you contribute goes a long way without any losses en route.

We need your generosity to make our efforts successful. We have several ways that you can donate.

If not us, we urge you to contribute to any other organization that is providing relief to this region. We have compiled a list of other organizations here.
